When we heard the Redbull Soapbox Derby was coming to town, the gang here at Gorilla decided to put our
talents, glues, and spirit to the test. We always ask others for their tough stories and tough challenges--so we
wanted to take part ourselves.

Check out our progress and wish us luck October 4 as we send the Gorilla derby car out to face the
toughest hills in town.

This is the foam that will one day be the Gorilla. This is the stuff that keeps docks afloat. We're hoping that it's easy to sculpt.

The guys who picked this up said that they knew it was the foam for us when they got close to it and it smelled just like a gorilla. It must be fate.

Mike is beginning the frame of the derby car. Ours comes fully loaded with spacious seating, anti-lock brakes, all weather bike tires and a sturdy metal frame that will keep all passengers safe on the road.

Dave is working on the braking system here. We love our team and aim for complete safety. We're hoping these brakes are all we hope for!

Nik and Brent try the derby car on for size. Notice the nice airbag (or foambag) safety system we're planning to use.  Hopefully it will absorb some impact if the car topples over.

Joe and Joe get started on working with the foam. They had to Gorilla Glue the large square pieces together to make one giant block of foam. Gorilla Glue is ideal for gluing foam--most adhesives eat away at foam while Gorilla Glue holds tightly (we had to drop that in there somewhere).

The guys used a reciprocating saw and lots of sandpaper to manage the foam giant.

After a lot of Gorilla Glue and a lot of sawing foam, the Gorilla begins to take shape. Fingers crossed that our sculpting abilities will work as well on the small details as it did on the larger pieces.

We give our team 5 stars for incredible carving ability. The Gorilla is starting to look familiar.
