Featured Tough Story: 300 Bottles + Gorilla Glue = 1 Amazing Clock

My father and I built a clock using 300 beer bottles and Gorilla Glue. The clock was built at Stanley Clockworks, which is a father and son operation that makes fine and unusual clocks. The clock is now on display at the National Association of Watch and Clock Collector's Museum in Columbia, PA.

The Bottle Clock took five months to build. It is 20 feet long and its biggest gear is 5 foot in diameter with 300 intermeshing beer bottles. The time is read from left to right: hours (red), minutes (blue), and seconds (yellow).

We washed and cleaned the bottles from the local recycling center and fitted them with a bolt we had turned down to fit the neck of the bottle. We attached the bolt to the bottle using epoxy. However, we found that the epoxy set too quickly and I couldn't get many bolts attached on the bottles without constantly remixing.

We turned to Gorilla Glue because we didn't have to mix the glue and could do as many bottles as we wanted, put the cap on, then come back and do more when we were ready.

The clock is pretty impressive. Gorilla fans definitely check it out!   Vince Stanley

Other Tough Stories:

Repairing A Lamp

I had a handmade lamp finial made of a soft metal that had broken when twisted too hard. I tried other products to repair it. I may as well have been using water. The two metal pieces did not adhere -- even momentarily. I took it to my guy who repairs everything. He said he could neither glue it nor could he easily solder it (apparently something to do with the type of metal). He was about to charge me $65 for a $35 finial. I was resigned to buying a new one -- only to discover that the artist has discontinued it. So I rummaged around the kitchen drawer looking for the tube of Gorilla Super Glue I had bought but then misplaced and never tried. I figured it was a lost cause but I may as well try it. One minute later, my finial was back on my lamp. Thank you so much, you have a terrific product. I will never again assume all super glues are the same!

Broken Tomato Branches: Joint Effort by Gorilla Glue and Gorilla Tape

I fix broken tomato plant branches with Gorilla Tape to hold the branch and Gorilla Glue to repair the branch. As the photos show, the tomatoes continue to grow and ripen.

Care When Most Needed

Hey! I just wanted to thank you for a wonderful product in your Gorilla Tape. I'm a Veterinary Technician and was contacted in January of 2008 by a local veterinarian about a tortoise who had been mauled by a dog and a portion of his upper shell, above his left front leg, had been broken off and his lung was exposed (actually "pooching" out through the hole). I was able to get some dental epoxy - acrylic - to make a patch but didn't have any proper glue to keep the patch attached to the shell. Because he was critical I decided to try your Gorilla Tape as a temporary fix. Well, after 6 months I pulled the patch off today and he is completely healed and healthy - and I never had to replace the tape or the patch! That tape held up and maintained contact even with the little guy digging in pellets and shavings, and having a shallow water bath every day. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for such a good product...you made my life easier - and certainly contributed in saving "Moe's" life!
Thanks! Mary M.

The Next MacGyver

I thought you would like to know of another use for your tape. My 13 year old couldn't find our bike tire repair kit so he decided to use some of your Gorilla Tape to repair 3 different puncture holes, and it is still holding a few days later. Thanks for a great product, maybe he'll be the next McGyver.
